Let Me Out the Box!!!

We’ve all heard the saying “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”, at least once in our lives, and sometimes it does hold true. However, just because a particular thing is working, doesn’t mean that it’s the only way to make it to your destination. For example, when I released my first three songs, I received a lot of positive feedback. Yet, I was also told that maybe I should put my music on hold, and do theatre, because there really wasn’t a place for my style. At first, I was distraught, because how could there not be a place for what I had to offer. The very thing that I was proud of, seemed to be the thing that many saw as a downside, and that was my musical diversity. Over the years, I struggled with being confident in who I was musically, often feeling confined, to the limitations of my field. Even during those times, of my musical growing pains, I was constantly sent confirmations to let me know that I was on the right path. People began to slowly take notice, and appreciate my style, reassuring me that my music had a place. I say all of this to say, just because you don’t fit the mold, doesn’t mean that you don’t have a seat reserved at the table. We each have our own means of sharing our gifts, what a shame it would be if we muffled it by always playing following the leader.
